Liliane Clement
Liliane Clement was born in Montreal, Canada. Her father learned piano from a trained European pianist who emigrated into Canada. Lessons were passed on when Liliane was taught by her father and later studied music professionally in her native city of Montreal. During this early period she was also inclined to produce art through drawing and watercolor.

Passion for expressing herself through art was very strong for Liliane. She thus furthered her knowledge by earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Sir George Williams University, topping that off with a masters in Art Education at Michigan State University and a masters of Fine Arts at the University of Quebec, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Incentive to make her art begins with intuitive emotions arising when she comes across a particular situation regarding shapes, colors and compositions. Attractive and original photography, regardless of its content, also inspires her. A theatrical moment may appear to her, revealing many opportunities of energizing compositions, softening in pensive joy.

Abstraction: Blue Triangle
Acrylic and Mixed Media on Canvas

x 57", 1994

Blue Triangle

The most creative moments appear for Liliane the morning after conditioning the day before; since her energy is best following the rise of light in her studio. She calls it "crystal light". During her daily whereabouts, she is always aware of special situations that may arise where ideas flow for new compositions.

Liliane has been painting full time for quite a few years and is always searching for ideas while beginning her website. As an artist, she would like to discover more sophisticated color compositions in which she can surprise herself in revealing her subconscious.

Muses of Sylphide

The Muses: Muses of Sylphide
Acrylic and Mixed Media on Canvas
36"
x 54", 1995

Liliane invites the viewer to discover a new world in her paintings, where emotions communicate "poetic" instances. She also seeks out artists with a genuine quest for originality. Sincerity and generosity are among the qualities she appreciate and she also likes to exchange ideas and correspondence with interesting people with new ideas. In her ongoing search for ideas, she visits museums in the U.S. and Europe. Through her travel she learns about modern art as well as other cultures.

Floral: Jasmine
Acrylic and Mixed Media on Canvas
42"
x 32", 1998

Jasmine

Liliane's artistic style communicates, in her own words, "la joie de vivre." Through her years of painting, she has developed an approach referring to her different themes. Female silhouettes in her muses within a collage of intuitive brushstrokes. Floral shapes in warm saturated colors or abstract movements of shapes and/or expressionist lines in colorful rhythms.

Misura
Paper: Misura
Acrylic and Mixed Media on
Arches rag pH-neutral Paper
42"
x 31", 1993

Liliane uses acrylic on canvas and acid-free rag paper made from quality paint and materials. Her color values originate from research to put the right intensities together. The multimedia, collage and textural additions she incorporates form a sensual relief with different shapes. When the work is completed, each painting presents a vibrating surface to the viewer.

Liliane has exhibited at the General Delegation of Quebec in Rockfeller Center in New York. Many of her paintings are in private collections. She invites art consultants, corporations, designers as well as collectors who have particular needs regarding size and color schemes to contact her directly.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Visual feasts for the eyes, my paintings offer a high energetic stimulus for the soul. My artwork is best described as a manifestation in my quest for originality. I have developed an approach to art creation with reference to nature and its organic elements. The contrasting colors, shapes, textures in my compositions identify a content full of imagination. As a result, a contemplative atmosphere emerges from the painting, leaving the viewer with impressions of poetical reflection. ~ Liliane Clement
